Maldon Art Club exhibition – and winning an art prize

Back in May, Maldon Art Club held it’s Spring/Summer exhibition. As a member from earlier this year I decided to submit some pieces framed and unframed. It was held in the All Saints Church on Maldon high street. This was actually the first time I have ever submitted work for an exhibition so a great opportunity and learning experience.

I had never framed any original paintings before – and as a few members of the art club pointed out you don’t put the glass in! So that was something new to learn too!

A closer look at the framed pieces submitted:

On the private view night I found out that I had won the Bill Geller Prize for Drawing which was a fantastic boost. I had the pleasure of meeting his daughter who presented me with the award as well. The piece that was chosen to win was actually the painting of the woman with blonde hair but I believe the award was based on my drawing submissions. As well as a certificate now on my pinboard I received a gift voucher for Jacksonart.com which I have yet to spend so I need to get round to picking some things – new art supplies are always handy to have!

I’m writing this in August so time is running out for 2024 somewhat but I definitely want to keep an eye out for more opportunities to exhibit and showcase my work in future!
